Welcome to United Way of Meriden and Wallingford’s new Web Site! We’ve redone the site to provide better information and examples of how United Way is helping you to make a difference here in our community!

United Way is one of our community’s most valuable resources. We’re more than just fundraisers, we’re a force for change. The dollars we collect from generous donors are invested in agency programs that give people the tools to transform their lives. It’s a network of services that benefits people from all walks of life.

We hope you’ll explore our new site and learn more about how United Way and our agency partners are turning good intentions into measurable results that improve the quality of life for everyone in Meriden and Wallingford.

United Way Membership Requirements

The United Way of Meriden and Wallingford is proud to display the “Membership Requirements Completed” icon. This is recognition by the United Way of America that we have completed and filed on time our forms for: Membership Requirements Certification, Membership Investment, the Database 2 Survey of Total Resources Generated and a report of our Income and Expenses.
Accountability is important to us and to you. While it is important to document and certify our activities with the United Way of America, it is equally important to demonstrate those things to you our donors and community partners. As your local, volunteer-driven United Way, we want you to be assured that we meet all standards held for membership in United Way of America and that these standards are reviewed and met annually.

Staff

The United Way of Meriden & Wallingford relies heavily on its dedicated full time staff for the day to day operations of this organization. Staff members handle all daily activities and community contact as well as lending support to our Board of Directors to implement successful campaigns and distribute resources efficiently and effectively.

Does my money stay local?
Yes, it absolutely does! When you make a donation to United Way of Meriden and Wallingford, it goes to support over 20 local agencies and community initiatives that are working to solve community challenges across Meriden and Wallingford.
Can I give to another charity?
A designated gift to a special 501(c)3 organization or another United Way is optional. Gifts designated to other agencies are not monitored by United Way and require a deduction of administrative fees, where applicable.
Why should I give to United Way instead of giving directly to organizations I am passionate about?
We believe in collective giving for collective impact. Working with our network of partners across our community, we have the scale to drive impact because we do what no one agency can do alone, which is support a collaborative network of partners working to address community needs. Our partnerships and collaborations allow us to take on big challenges such as early childhood education, mental health services, access to medical care and financial stability.
What is United Way’s overhead rate?
United Way of Meriden and Wallingford’s overhead rate is 17%.This is competitive with the top 100 nonprofits in the U.S. and is well below the industry standard and recommendations from the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance and charity Navigator. United Way keeps a close eye on expenses, while making sure we have the talent, expertise and systems to raise and invest resources for maximum impact.
